The EPA Is Phasing Out R22

If your A/C unit is using R22, you need to hear about this vital change.

Your air conditioning unit may be using the chemical R22. The EPA is phasing out R22 , which is commonly called freon. They’re doing so because R22 is an ozone-depleting refrigerant, meaning it can have negative effects on the ozone layer. Over the last couple of years, they’ve been trying to phase it out of the industry.

As of 2020, they’re not making any new R22 equipment, and they’re not putting it in any more existing equipment. This change means that either you’ll need to buy a new unit that has a safer refrigerant, the R-410A, or you’ll have to figure out how to get recycled R22 refrigerant, as you won’t be able to get it new. That will get more and more expensive as they run out of supply. You should get repairs done to your HVAC unit soon, as even tiny pinhole leaks can mean huge costs later.

If you have questions about this change or real estate in general, please just give me a call or send an email to tom@tomwhitegroup.com. I would love to help you.
